An Old Lady’s Tale

Oh! how I miss the days of my prime-

my 20’s and early 30’s

full years of youthful exuberance

and my cunning ways:

milking money out of old men

enjoying the attention of young men,

who lined up in the front gate of papa’s house

bearing gifts of love

and letters of romance.

Now the days I dread are here

seasonal torments and endless woes

no longer the lady I once was

my once beautiful smile,

now reveal a pair of toothless gum

between two chapped lips

that my skin was once a baby’s

an utter disbelief

how I miss the days of my prime-

Oh! how long before I return to my maker?
